May Jesus Christ, the way who leads us to eternal happiness, be with you!
Every now and then our Sunday celebration reminds us more than usual of God's generous love. The first reading for today's Mass states, "God's ways are not our ways. God's thoughts are not our thoughts." Just how vast is the difference between God's ways and our ways, between God's thoughts and our thoughts, is illustrated in the Gospel. God's generosity transcends human gererosity.
The parable of the workers in the vineyard was aimed at the Pharisees. They were critical of Jesus because he befriended sinners and oucasts. Jesus showed what God is like: generous and full of compassion for the poor and the outcast.
Saint Paul urges us to conduct ourselves "in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ."
Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Cyprian, our patron saint. Throughout his ministry as a priest, and later, as a bishop, his message was always one with the message of Jesus Christ: to live our lives and conduct ourselves worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Saint Cyprian taught that in doing this we must always be in unison with Jesus Christ and grow in faith.
As we celebrate Jesus' grace and love for us, we also celebrate those who proclaim and willingly give of their lives to make sure we understand Jesus' message. Therefore, we celebrate the man, the saint, who continues to intercede for us: St. Cyprian.
Happy Feast Day and God's blessings on our family and parish.
