May Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd who leads us to everlasting life, be with you!

How often have we heard: "We are responsible for our actions?"  Today's Gospel offers this phrase as our theme for the week.  We have the freedom to "Yes" or "No" to God.  But this means we are responsible for our actions.

The parable of the two sons was addressed to the chief priest, elders of the people, and all listeners.

The first son, who represents sinners, chose to go his own way and to do his own thing.  The second son represents the chief priests and elders, and at times, he is like us.  We promise to work for God and follow Him, but often fail to do so.  We sometimes abuse our freedom, but God in his goodness calls us to repentance.  The readings and theme for today challenge us to "walk the walk" as well as "talk the talk."

As the sacred word is proclaimed to us, let us ask God to form us more and more into the image of Christ, so that we may become Christ for others.
