Pastor's Message- October 16, 2011
Friday, October 14, 2011 12:24 PM

May Jesus Christ, who sustains us through His word, be with you!

What is your priority in life?  Who, or what, comes first for you?  These are not trick questions.  These questions are something to think about daily.  Unfortunately, there are many people whose priorities are misguided and off track.

I am always happy to hear athletes begin their victory speech by giving praise to God.  They recognize that God is first in their lives and the reason for their success.

Our readings today challenge us to determine where our priority lies.  Is it the materialism of the world, or our personal satisfaction?  Or, is it God who created us out of love?  In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is put to the test as to where his priority lies.  He said: "Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."  Jesus argues with the Pharisees that there are priorities in life, like paying taxes but also emphasizes that God should be "number one" in our attitudes and actions.

As we listen to the rich words of today's scriptures, let us ask God to strengthen us in our resolve to follow Christ with all our hearts.

Peace,

Msgr. Britto
