April 4th 2010 Bulletin Highlights

Reinstitution of Communion with the Cup of the Precious Blood and Sign of Peace.

The flu season now over, we reinstituted the distribution of the Precious Blood, at the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper. Once again, you will have the option to receive from the Precious Cup.

We hope you will return to the spirit of offering the Sign of Peace in the tradition to which we are accustomed.

HAPPY EASTER!

Easter, the principal festival of the Christian church year, celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion.  The origins of Easter date to the beginnings of Christianity, and it is probably the oldest Christian observance after the Sabbath (observed on Saturday).

Cultural historians find in the celebration of Easter, a convergence of the three traditions: Pagan, Hebrew, and Christian!

Pagan- old Teutonic mythology worshiped "Eostre", the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring.  When English Christians wanted others to accept Christianity, they used the term Easter, hoping it would be more comfortable for others to follow.

Hebrew- the Easter festival is related to the Hebrew tradition, the Jewish Passover. It was during the Passover, around 30 a.d., that Christ was crucified.

Christian- the earliest Christians, having been brought up in the Jewish tradition regarded Easter as a new feature of the Passover. For them the Christian Passover was a unitive celebration of the passion-death-resurrection of Jesus.
